Staveley is served by a station in the centre of the village on the Oxenholme to Windermere line. This is a spur off the West Coast mainline, connected via Oxenholme Station (which is outside Kendal). The station code is SVL. The links page gives access to the National Rail website for timetables. In some cases you may be able to get a direct train if you live within an area served by Transpennine Railways. Otherwise, chances are you will have to get a Virgin train to Oxenholme then change onto the Transpennine Express service to Windermere. This takes about 15 minutes to reach Staveley from Oxenholme. The cottage is a five minute walk from the train station.The connecting service from Oxenholme to Staveley is generally sequenced fairly well with Virgin mainline services. However, if you train is late you may find that you have to wait upto 40 mins for the next Windermere train. If this is the case, or you arrive too late for the Windermere service an alternative is to call for a taxi. Blue Star Taxis are a reliable taxi service based at the station. If coming from the North exit the station to the left, if from the South you will need to take the underpass, turn left and come up on the other side of the southbound track. The taxi rank is outside the main entrance. The journey to Staveley takes about 15-20 minutes by taxi.

Stavelely is best reached from the majority of the country via junction 36 of the M6. The A591 (follow signs for Kendal) is first a dual carriageway then a wide A road after Kendal. The Staveley turning is signposted off the A591 to the right. There is a road into the village which carries right through and rejoins the A591 to the West.Coming from Kendal: After turning off the A591 follow Kendal Road over the railway crossing and into the village. Take the right-hand turning onto Silver Street (the turning after Back Lane). School Lane is the first turning on the left, Cottontale Cottage is 25 yards up on the right. Off-street parking is in front of the cottage.
Coming from Windermere: turn left off the A591 onto Windermere Road. Take the turning on the left Brow Lane. Take the next turning on the right, School Lane. Cottontale Cottage is near the end of the lane on the left.

Directions to the house: there is a one-way system through Windermere. As you pass through the town centre turn left in front of Motorworld, then right after 30m onto Salisbury Place. You will see Cobblers Cottage immediately on the left and parking can be found in the private yard at the rear of the property.
